Double chin

No matter how pretty you are, or whether you have a perfect golden ratio that everyone is jealous about, having a double chin will instantly give an impression of a chubby body and draw the attention away. What is double chin

Double chin, medically referred to as submental fat, is caused by the accumulation of fat below the chin and the resulting formation of an extra layer of fat around the neck. Besides, as we age, skin starts to lose elasticity, and gravity takes advantage, causing sagging skin underneath the chin which will create double chin or even multiple chin. Double chin distorts facial profile, makes neck look shorter and affects one’s level of self-esteem.

Causes

1. Bad posture

Bad posture has a lot to do with whether or not you develop a double chin. People who chronically sit with an aching back, stretch neck forward all the time, and sleep with a high pillow for a long period of time are prone to developing a double chin as only a single direction of neck movement is involved. Also, people who look down on their phone or computer for a long time are a high risk group of developing a double chin, it is because the three fat compartments below the chin are squeezed constantly and chronically, resulting in fat being squeezed out from the neck and forming a double chin layer.

2. Poor eating habit

Eating behaviour contributes to the formation of a double chin. Chewing food can strengthen chin muscle, therefore, if you lack adequate chewing, the chin muscle will become loosen and lack elasticity.

3. Receding chin

Receding chin pushes the skin and tissue below the chin inward towards the body, causing them to pile up together.

4. Fat accumulation on the platysma muscle

What is it?

How does it work?
